To call William Hannah ‘great' or ‘legendary' would be to rather understate just how important he was in the development of Scottish dance music. Born in Blackburn, West Lothian - on leaving school he embarked on a career in mining. However his musical expertise soon intervened and made him a leading figure in Scottish popular musical circles. Over a period of 25 years he made around 100 recordings mostly for the Parlophone label, a company for whom he also worked as an A&R man.

When working class musicians moved from the melodeon to the now more affordable accordion, Hannah recognised that the trend would bring about the formation of the dance bands that we know today and he became one of the pioneers of this form of entertainment.

On this CD there are 18 tracks mostly of William Hannah and his Band but also a few in trio and in duo. They have been collected over a period of several years before being digitally restored so that you may enjoy once again the instrumental skills of a wonderful musician.
