At long last a new viewpoint on Robert Burns - The womenfolk in his life. Forty short biographies of his female acquaintances and lovers. Their circumstances spanned the social divide from maidservant to ladies of the court of George III.

Previously, little information was available about many of Burns' women friends, but now, after seven years of research, Tae The Lasses puts this right by pulling their stories together in one book. Some of the lasses are well known like Jean Armour and Agnes McLehose, others like Jenny Clow and Polly Stewart are less familiar names.

The 436 page book contains not only biographies and where possible illustrations, but also the words and music for each of the 102 songs which Burns wrote for them and records his thoughts and comments on each song.

'So Special - The definitive handbook for 'The Toast Tae The Lasses' or 'The Reply' - The Scots Magazine

'Do not borrow this book – buy it! You will want to come back to it often, not just in the run up to the annual cairry-on that is the 25th January'. - Leopard Magazine

'Bell's love of the muse and the ‘Poetic Heart’ is clear from the preface of both books. If you raise your Christmas glass to Cheer, raise it to Maureen Bell and Tae The Lasses'. - History Scotland Magazine
